Kindergarten Lead Teacher

Mike Mizak

Kindergarten Lead Teacher

Hello! I’m Mr. Mizak. I have been the Kindergarten teacher at Good Beginnings School since 2015. I am originally from Roanoke, VA and have lived in Northern VA since 2004. I graduated from Radford University in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and, for a time, worked in the non-profit sector for the Boy Scouts of America and in the hospitality industry as a General Manager in a national chain. However, none of those jobs left me as fulfilled as even the smallest amount of time spent with children. I knew that I had a different calling and, eventually, returned to school and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from Liberty University in 2015. I have worked with children in one facet or another for the last 20 + years including time as a Pre-K teacher and camp counselor/coordinator. I look forward to working with you and your child as we equip our boys and girls with the tools to become excited, engaged life-long learners. We will focus on all the core subjects while also teaching our children the value of becoming responsible members of a community at home and at school.

My wife Rebekah and I will celebrate 10 years of marriage in September and we have one son, who celebrated his first birthday in June! We are also the proud parents of a fur-baby: an Australian Shepherd named Hershey.

We enjoy an active, outdoor lifestyle which includes camping, hiking and softball. We are both huge Orioles fans (and are raising Jakob accordingly)! We travel to Baltimore for games as often as our schedules will allow. Fall Saturdays often involve Hokies football, whether on television or, preferably, in Blacksburg. I also especially enjoy drawing, woodworking, cooking, reading biographies, history and BBQ books.
